 BIOGRAPHY

John was born and educated in Nelson, BC. He grew up in Crescent and begun piano lessons at the age of 5.John as a young boy
He performed on local TV and at the age of l0 received the highest mark in BC on his Grade 3 Exam, taken with the Royal Conservatory of Music.

He regularly participated in the Kootenay Music Festivals and brought home numerous Awards and Medals.

He was chosen to attend the Provincial Festival of the Arts in Prince George, BC and competed In the National Piano Class at the Provincials in Campbell River,BC.

John completed his Toronto Conservatory ARCT Teacher's practical piano exam.

He studied with several excellent piano Teachers: Darlene Brigadier, Helen Dahlstrom, Paul Crawford, Karen Macdonald. He studied Pop and Jazz with Gilles Parenteau, a 2 year Program in Nelson, offered through Selkirk College and receiveJohn "Baby Fingers" playing piano for a cruise lined his Diploma, majoring in Performance.

At the age of 15 John began teaching and discovered his great ability with kids and after 19 years has taught well over 600 students. That includes Group classes at Carillon Music where he also gained experience adjudicating at their local Music Festival. Wayne Wong, an International piano competitor, who is currently studying in New York, was one of his students. Mrs. Winifred Wood from the Victoria Conservatory once quoted: "Kids love you, you have a special gift."

At 18 John began his career as a Music Director at the Taylor Stratton camp, the largest summer camp in North America. Anne Murray once held the same job. He played daily for 500 people, and helped direct the musical "South Pacific". John has performed in Theatres, cruise ships, piano lounges, huge arenas and night clubs. For 6 years he performed solo every weekend in the lounge of the Days' John at his best - Playing weekends at the Day's Inn, Surrey, BCInn. He also played in numerous bands from Jazz, Rock and Blues to Country. Presently he plays with the Vancouver Band "Blackwater"
